Voctomix runs on a basic PC.

  • CPU: i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30GHz

  • RAM 4GB

  • HDD: 1TB

  • 1 x free PCI slot 1 lane

  • gig-e network

  • basic 1080 21" LCD Screen ( Optional 2nd for presenter confidence monitor)

  • mouse, keyboard

A desktop is needed to host the BlackMagic card, which is what the camera connects to, so a laptop is not an option. (kinda - SD cameras over firewire is an option)

The disk will be wiped and Linux, apps and configuration will be put in place with automation, so don't expect anything on the disk to be preserved.

To test and see what Voctomix is like: https://debconf-video-team.pages.debian.net/ansible/usb_install/usb_quick_start.html

i3 is suitable for recording. live streaming seems possible, but has never been used in production. for live steaming i5-3470 or Q8400 @ 2.66GHz seems to work.

Tripod - The cameras are either Panasonic DVX 100 or similar. They weigh about 4 lbs (or 2kg) Small tripods can hold the weight, but are more likely to tip over when someone bumps them, which happens often at a conference.
