In the library it's possible to open a private tab from the bookmarks but not from the history.

It works if you use the address chrome://browser/content/places/places.xul to access it in a tab and has multiprocess windows (e10s) turned off:

Firefox history

You can bookmark it to open it again later.

Thanks, that's a nice workaround. I'm now using More In Content UI + (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/more-in-content-ui-plus/) which opens the library in a tab.
