Upstream-commit: d73e172 John Stultz reports a boot time crash with the HiKey board (which uses hci_serdev) occurring in hci_uart_tx_wakeup(). That function is contained in hci_ldisc.c, but also called from the newer hci_serdev.c. It acquires the proto_lock in struct hci_uart and it turns out that we forgot to init the lock in the serdev code path, thus causing the crash. John bisected the crash to commit 67d2f87 ("Bluetooth: hci_ldisc: Allow sleeping while proto locks are held"), but the issue was present before and the commit merely exposed it. (Perhaps by luck, the crash did not occur with rwlocks.) Init the proto_lock in the serdev code path to avoid the oops. If we can't get inode lock immediately in the function ocfs2_inode_lock_with_page() when reading a page, we should not return directly here, since this will lead to a softlockup problem when the kernel is configured with CONFIG_PREEMPT is not set. The method is to get a blocking lock and immediately unlock before returning, this can avoid CPU resource waste due to lots of retries, and benefits fairness in getting lock among multiple nodes, increase efficiency in case modifying the same file frequently from multiple nodes. commit f027e0b upstream. The adis_probe_trigger() creates a new IIO trigger and requests an interrupt associated with the trigger. The interrupt uses the generic iio_trigger_generic_data_rdy_poll() function as its interrupt handler. Currently the driver initializes some fields of the trigger structure after the interrupt has been requested. But an interrupt can fire as soon as it has been requested. This opens up a race condition. iio_trigger_generic_data_rdy_poll() will access the trigger data structure and dereference the ops field. If the ops field is not yet initialized this will result in a NULL pointer deref. It is not expected that the device generates an interrupt at this point, so typically this issue did not surface unless e.g. due to a hardware misconfiguration (wrong interrupt number, wrong polarity, etc.). But some newer devices from the ADIS family start to generate periodic interrupts in their power-on reset configuration and unfortunately the interrupt can not be masked in the device. This makes the race condition much more visible and the following crash has been observed occasionally when booting a system using the ADIS16460. commit cb88a05 upstream. Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard does not respond to usb control messages sometimes and hence generates timeouts. Commit de3af5b ("usb: quirks: add delay init quirk for Corsair Strafe RGB keyboard") tried to fix those timeouts by adding USB_QUIRK_DELAY_INIT. Unfortunately, even with this quirk timeouts of usb_control_msg() can still be seen, but with a lower frequency (approx. 1 out of 15): [ 29.103520] usb 1-8: string descriptor 0 read error: -110 [ 34.363097] usb 1-8: can't set config #1, error -110 Adding further delays to different locations where usb control messages are issued just moves the timeouts to other locations, e.g.: [ 35.400533] usbhid 1-8:1.0: can't add hid device: -110 [ 35.401014] usbhid: probe of 1-8:1.0 failed with error -110 The only way to reliably avoid those issues is having a pause after each usb control message. In approx. 200 boot cycles no more timeouts were seen. Addionaly, keep USB_QUIRK_DELAY_INIT as it turned out to be necessary to have the delay in hub_port_connect() after hub_port_init(). The overall boot time seems not to be influenced by these additional delays, even on fast machines and lightweight distributions. [ Upstream commit 8610783 ] If fbdev emulation is disabled, the QXL shutdown path will try to clean a framebuffer that wasn't initialized, hitting the Oops below. The problem is that even when FBDEV_EMULATION is disabled we allocate the qfbdev strutucture, but we don't initialize it. The fix is to stop allocating the memory, since it won't be used. This allows the existing verification in the cleanup hook to do it's job preventing the oops. Now that we don't allocate the unused fbdev structure, we need to be careful when dereferencing it in the PM suspend hook. [ Upstream commit fda78d7 ] The pci_bus_type .shutdown method, pci_device_shutdown(), is called from device_shutdown() in the kernel restart and shutdown paths. Previously, pci_device_shutdown() called pci_msi_shutdown() and pci_msix_shutdown(). This disables MSI and MSI-X, which causes the device to fall back to raising interrupts via INTx. The MSI disabling code was added by d52877c ("pci/irq: let pci_device_shutdown to call pci_msi_shutdown v2") because a driver left MSI enabled and kdump failed because the kexeced kernel wasn't prepared to receive the MSI interrupts. Subsequent commits 1851617 ("PCI/MSI: Disable MSI at enumeration even if kernel doesn't support MSI") and e80e7ed ("PCI/MSI: Initialize MSI capability for all architectures") changed the kexeced kernel to disable all MSIs itself so it no longer depends on the crashed kernel to clean up after itself. Stop disabling MSI/MSI-X in pci_device_shutdown(). This resolves the "nobody cared" unhandled IRQ issue above. It also allows PCI serial devices, which may rely on the MSI interrupts, to continue outputting messages during reboot/shutdown. In thinking about this, I realized that we don't need to flush the TLB when there is no context. So, I added context checks to the large flush cases in flush_cache_mm() and flush_cache_range(). The large flush case occurs frequently in flush_cache_mm() and the change should improve fork performance. The v2 version of this change removes the BUG_ON from flush_cache_page() by skipping the TLB flush when there is no context. I also added code to flush the TLB in flush_cache_mm() and flush_cache_range() when we have a context that's not current. Now all three routines handle TLB flushes in a similar manner. [ Upstream commit 21a8e9d ] Existing API 'ieee80211_get_sdata_band' returns default 2 GHz band even if the channel context configuration is NULL. This crashes for chipsets which support 5 Ghz alone when it tries to access members of 'sband'. Channel context configuration can be NULL in multivif case and when channel switch is in progress (or) when it fails. Fix this by replacing the API 'ieee80211_get_sdata_band' with 'ieee80211_get_sband' which returns a NULL pointer for sband when the channel configuration is NULL. [ Upstream commit 9b70de6 ] The bnx2x driver is not providing proper alignment on the receive buffers it passes to build_skb(), causing skb_shared_info to be misaligned. skb_shared_info contains an atomic, and while PPC normally supports unaligned accesses, it does not support unaligned atomics. Aligning the size of rx buffers will ensure that page_frag_alloc() returns aligned addresses. Users can provide garbage while calling to ucma_join_ip_multicast(), it will indirectly cause to rdma_addr_size() return 0, making the call to ucma_process_join(), which had the right checks, but it is better to check the input as early as possible. commit 058f58e upstream. syzkaller reported a crash in ata_bmdma_fill_sg() when writing to /dev/sg1. The immediate cause was that the ATA command's scatterlist was not DMA-mapped, which causes 'pi - 1' to underflow, resulting in a write to 'qc->ap->bmdma_prd[0xffffffff]'. Strangely though, the flag ATA_QCFLAG_DMAMAP was set in qc->flags. The root cause is that when __ata_scsi_queuecmd() is preparing to relay a SCSI command to an ATAPI device, it doesn't correctly validate the CDB length before copying it into the 16-byte buffer 'cdb' in 'struct ata_queued_cmd'. Namely, it validates the fixed CDB length expected based on the SCSI opcode but not the actual CDB length, which can be larger due to the use of the SG_NEXT_CMD_LEN ioctl. Since 'flags' is the next member in ata_queued_cmd, a buffer overflow corrupts it. Fix it by requiring that the actual CDB length be <= 16 (ATAPI_CDB_LEN). [Really it seems the length should be required to be <= dev->cdb_len, but the current behavior seems to have been intentionally introduced by commit 607126c ("libata-scsi: be tolerant of 12-byte ATAPI commands in 16-byte CDBs") to work around a userspace bug in mplayer. Issue is that the map was wrongly identified as a prog! Above kernel was compiled with clang 4.0, and it turns out that clang decided to merge the bpf_prog_iops and bpf_map_iops into a single memory location, such that the two i_ops could then not be distinguished anymore. Reason for this miscompilation is that clang has the more aggressive -fmerge-all-constants enabled by default. In fact, clang source code has a comment about it in lib/AST/ExprConstant.cpp on why it is okay to do so: Pointers with different bases cannot represent the same object. (Note that clang defaults to -fmerge-all-constants, which can lead to inconsistent results for comparisons involving the address of a constant; this generally doesn't matter in practice.) The issue never appeared with gcc however, since gcc does not enable -fmerge-all-constants by default and even *explicitly* states in it's option description that using this flag results in non-conforming behavior, quote from man gcc: Languages like C or C++ require each variable, including multiple instances of the same variable in recursive calls, to have distinct locations, so using this option results in non-conforming behavior. There are also various clang bug reports open on that matter [1], where clang developers acknowledge the non-conforming behavior, and refer to disabling it with -fno-merge-all-constants. But even if this gets fixed in clang today, there are already users out there that triggered this. Thus, fix this issue by explicitly adding -fno-merge-all-constants to the kernel's Makefile to generically disable this optimization, since potentially other places in the kernel could subtly break as well. Note, there is also a flag called -fmerge-constants (not supported by clang), which is more conservative and only applies to strings and it's enabled in gcc's -O/-O2/-O3/-Os optimization levels. In case user skips this step, he can provide non-valid ctx without CM_ID and cause to multiple NULL dereferences. commit 5c64576 upstream. syzkaller reports for wrong rtnl_lock usage in sync code [1] and [2] We have 2 problems in start_sync_thread if error path is taken, eg. on memory allocation error or failure to configure sockets for mcast group or addr/port binding: 1. recursive locking: holding rtnl_lock while calling sock_release which in turn calls again rtnl_lock in ip_mc_drop_socket to leave the mcast group, as noticed by Florian Westphal. Additionally, sock_release can not be called while holding sync_mutex (ABBA deadlock). 2. task hung: holding rtnl_lock while calling kthread_stop to stop the running kthreads. As the kthreads do the same to leave the mcast group (sock_release -> ip_mc_drop_socket -> rtnl_lock) they hang. Fix the problems by calling rtnl_unlock early in the error path, now sock_release is called after unlocking both mutexes. Problem 3 (task hung reported by syzkaller [2]) is variant of problem 2: use _trylock to prevent one user to call rtnl_lock and then while waiting for sync_mutex to block kthreads that execute sock_release when they are stopped by stop_sync_thread. I was having an issue using the new driver when the HDMI cable wasn't connected where libcec would hang during init. The current libplatform has no timeout for the select loop during writes and would never return. I originally wanted to return POLLERR when there was no link but then I got hangs while reading since it's blocking and we don't fail reads if there is no link (didn't look to see if that's possible).
Minimal fix seems to notify of writable state while there is no link and then let the write fail.
