Unknown display type: "thirdperson"

I know that certain item models declare thirdperson_<right,left,>hand. There are also models that do not declare a particular hand but just thirdperson and firstperson. There is a unknown display type error when trying to open a model that doesn't specify hands. I'm not sure if this targets a particular Minecraft version but the model I am trying to open is from 1.12.2.

Sorry for only reacting now.
The VSCode extension is rather new, so there might have been a change in the model structure from 1.12 to 1.17. I will have a look into this.
Possible solutions could be some kind of backwards compatibility
