Description

Not sure if this is a known problem (couldn't find a related issue). When the block structure has many neste levels, the List view panel doesn't provide enough space to show the complete block names.

This is an inherent problem with sidebars, as they usually provide a limited horizontal space.

The screenshot below shows the List view in the Site editor, with the Twenty Twenty-Three 'Single' template. In the comemnts form, the name of some blocks is just cut-off. The List View panel can't be resized or enlarged. There's no alternative view.

Step-by-step reproduction instructions

  • Activate Twenty Twenty-Three.
  • Go to the Site editor.
  • Edit the 'Single' template
  • Open the List view.
  • Select, for example, the 'Comment Edit Link' block.
  • Observe that many block names in this section are cut-off.

@afercia When I tested it's possible to scroll to the right. It was a fairly recent change by @andrewserong I believe.

Thanks for the ping!

The post editor has been fixed to 350px with a horizontal scrollbar since October #44788 (GB 14.5), and a couple of months ago the site editor was updated to match in #49793 from @jasmussen.

Joen has mentioned in the past (e.g. in discussion on #49600 (comment)) the idea of adding a drag handle to the list view sidebar, which could allow a user to drag to expand the size of the list view (in a similar way to how the canvas can be resized in browse mode) — I quite like this idea as a way to deal with very deeply nested list views. Unfortunately there likely won't be time to implement such a thing for WP 6.3, but I'd like to have a go at it in the future.

Sometimes the scroll does not appear in the bottom. I notice when it hits 8 nested items including Page it the scroll is not there sometimes and the vertical ellipses go away so you are left having to create on the builder.
