There is an option that you can pass when starting sshmonitor, it's called notify with ui. This allows you to get a real time UI notification with any ssh activity. There seems to be an issue with the ctypes system library when using python3.

This needs to be confirmed since it has been such a long time since the issue was opened. This might not even be an issue anymore.
