It is built from scratch, there is no code re-use from Gaia.

The "old" one would need to be ported because of the API changes. In general the KaiOS one runs since it relies on the same platform, but it's not open source (and KaiOS has additional proprietary apis).

I don't know if you are allowed to answer me this, as you work to KaiOStech, there might be some interest conflicts if they don't want us regular users to play around with their toys hehehehehe.

I have a genuine interest in building FirefoxOS variants for study purposes and also for customization, freedom and exclusivity, after all, I'd be the coolest guy in my neighborhood or even city. No one else would be playing around with a so exclusive and distinct device like me.

I wanna try building a FirefoxOS image to some low cost SBC also, like Banana Pi M2Zero. And i'd like to control it with some oldschool feature phone keyboard. Today smartphones are rule, they ain't exception. If we're able to build very exclusive feature phones that are able to run day-to-day apps like Whatsapp, I know ppl who would pay small fortunes for that.

I know that the purpose of KaiOS and Capyloon is to make more and more people able to have their first experience with mobile internet (and internet at all). But here's my suggestion, if you guys made a super exclusive brand, Like VW does to audi, and build devices for wealthy customers under their desires and orders, that would be a great way to make a constant flux of cash to your projects.

Also, this project and these kind of simple devices are perfect for those who need privacy above all things. And there are people with these needs who'd also pay some small fortunes to fulfill their necessities.

If you replace the apps/ sub-directories by other apps, ./jackady dev and other commands will work.

Building for a Banana Pi class of device is easy, this is similar to the Pinephone/Librem5 builds.

The goal of Capyloon is to bring back "extreme" user agency and privacy. I'd like to believe that there are wealthy customers out there that would fund that kind of products, but so far I haven't seen them. Help! :)
