Full motivation & context in:

Eventually, our docs should seek to cover:

  • Why our recommended versioning scheme? (per-model, API/major version only)
  • When is it necessary to version a model?
  • As the producer of a versioned model:
    • How can I define a model's version? Can I optionally specify which model is the "latest"?
    • How can I DRY-ly define config/properties for multiple model versions at once?
    • When should a model be marked for deprecation (define a deprecation_date)?
  • As the consumer of a versioned model:
    • How can I ref a versioned model?
    • What can I expect to see if I ref a model that's slated for deprecation?

We'll plan to open more narrowly scoped issues as we go, associated with specific dbt-core PRs
