This issue has been migrated from #7297.

If you attempt to join a room over federation, and the resident server that you choose to help with the join has been blacklisted, you get this rather obscure error:

Failed to make_join via any server.

It would be nice if we could record why the server was blacklisted, and return some more information on it (maybe how long until the next attempt?)
