The rooms idea was discussed on 6/15/20. There was agreement this was a good metaphor.

Linking this with Ann's use case we discussed the idea that "rooms" might be; a room in Japan, a room in the US , a room in Europe. In each case data reside there and can only be computed on within the given room. The video might show that concept and that GA4GH APIs, brought together in FASP, enable it, or will do so in future.

On the 6/15 call I referred to the five senses of federation I'd previously shared in March. Reordered and annotated them:

  • Data provider
  • National boundaries (including regulations about where data may go)
  • Technology platform (stack)
  • Scientific discipline
  • Funder

Of those this use case federates across the first three.
