If grit init --global has not been called, running a remote pattern doesn't work.
grit init --global
Ex.
$ grit apply github.com/jacobbednarz/gritpatterns#foo examples/resources/cloudflare_record/resource.tf ERROR (code: 200) - pattern definition not found: foo. Try running grit init.

I'm unable to reproduce, even on a totally fresh machine. @jacobbednarz Do you remember where you installed Grit from?

from memory i've installed it two rodent ways. the first was with Homebrew and then the subsequent reinstalls have been with the curl invocation.
curl
this very well could be a remnant of the initial install where i was hitting issues.
