This is a continuation of - ipfs/js-ipfs#1030.

I'm happy to say that the main limitation brought up in the above issue (starting different nodes types across different environments) has been addressed with the latest ipfsd-ctl release.

I welcome others to leave comments as to what other limitations are currently there.
