Allow tests to be run from node_modules #9059

🚀 Feature Proposal

Allow Jest tests to be run from within the node_modules folder.

Motivation

Jest provides a rich testing and reporting framework, and has proven useful as the basis for other applications providing generic test suites to be run against other projects. In these cases the applications are installed under node_modules, so all applicable application tests files are there as well.

Workaround (and its removal)

There have been numerous previous issues written on various flavors of this (#7145, #1995, and many others). The workaround presented in most (if not all) cases is using:

"haste": {
  "providesModuleNodeModules": [
    "package-inside-node_modules-1",
    "package-inside-node_modules-2",
  ]
}

...which does work. But, PR #8535 includes the removal of providesModuleNodeModules, which would indicate this workaround may no longer be viable once incorporated.
