The solution for this is probably arrow support in the vega stack.

A related issue is that once you've loaded Voyager with a dataset, adding the encoding can be really slow for large datasets. It would be nice if you could drag all the encoding fields and then hit a button that to apply the encoding, as opposed to waiting a lot after you drag each encoding field.

Same applies to filters. Specify the filters and then hit an apply button.

This might be an issue for Voyager, though...
