November 26th, 2005 - Release v0.8
- Release comes with a MS Visual Studio .NET 2003 workspace.
- Cleaned up project workspace.
- Depthbounding allows the restriction of drawing operations to a specified depth range.
- Fixed typo CMuli3DVertexFormat::iGetNumVertexElement[e]s().
- Added copy-constructors to math-classes.
- Other minor changes which resulted in negligible performance increase.
March 4th, 2005 - Release v0.77
- Juha Niemimaki <jniemima@mail.student.oulu.fi> did an incredible job at porting Muli3D to AmigaOS 4!
His work is included in this release. If you have access to an AmigaOS 4 computer we'd be glad if you
could test Muli3D and report problems in case they should appear. Thanks, Juha, for your contribution!
- Replaced the matrix inversion code, old code produced incorrect results.
February 17th, 2005 - Release v0.75
- This release comes with four new samples: Crystal, a recreation of an ATI Radeon 8500 sample. Mandelbrot, a sample demonstrating the use of pixel shaders to render fractals. VolumeTexture, which shows the use of volumetric textures. Plus a raytracer, which has been implemented using vertex- and pixel shaders and would be easy to port to vs3.0/ps3.0 graphics hardware.
- Added a vertex cache and got rid of the limitation which would only allow a certain amount of vertices per draw*primitive-call.
- DrawIndexedPrimitive: parameter i_iBaseVertexIndex had no effect.
- Streamlined and split up the math-library into several files similar to the way the muli3d-core is handled.
- Volume textures can now be used: added the missing function iGetDepth and enabled the texture-creation function.
- The vertex shader function GetOutputRegisters() is now evaluated before rendering. The same applies to the pixel shader function bMightKillPixels().
- Added OBJ-model loading support to the application framework.
- Implemented alpha-blending in the LightFlare-sample.
January 18th, 2005 - Release v0.71
- Partial derivatives are now calculated correctly.
- vGetDdx() and vGetDdy() have been combined into a single function returning derivatives with respect to x and y. This reduces the overhead of calling the individiual functions seperately + both derivatives are usually needed anyway.
- Added a new sample 'Checkerboard', which makes use of partial derivatives to draw an antialiased checkerboard using procedural texturing.
January 11th, 2005 - Release v0.7
- This release comes with a new, faster and cleaner implementation of the rasterizer core functions.
- Clipping code received a face lift + supports user clip planes.
- Scissor testing is implemented through clipping in screenspace.
- The old mip-mapping code has been dropped: Partial derivatives can now be computed in pixel shaders
and are used for miplevel-calculations.
October 2nd, 2004 - Release v0.63
- Added support for 16-bit backbuffers (formats 565, 555 and 444).
- Added functions CopyToSurface and CopyToVolume.
- Wireframe mode now works as expected - proper implementation of line drawing has been included.
- Added line-thickness control (new renderstate).
- Changed 'triangle assembler' to 'primitive assembler' allowing primitive-types other than triangle lists in DrawDynamicPrimitive().
- Had to reintroduce static variables because performance sufferd too much from repeated stack push/pop-ing. Need to find a good/fast multithreading-safe solution ...
September 29th, 2004 - Release v0.6
- Rendertarget's clear-functions now forward to the new texture-method: Clear().
- Backface culling is now again performed after clipping - old setup introduced some problems.
- Added texture locking of sub-regions.
- Split classes into different files cleaning up the mess in m3dcore.cpp/m3dcore.h.
- Textures are now composed of several surfaces; rendering to textures has been replaced with rendering to surfaces, which allows rendering to mip-levels other than the first/largest one.
- The framebuffer has been renamed to colorbuffer.
- Fixed surface clear-function.
- Cleaned up texture sampling.
- Added support for volumes and volumetextures.
- Got rid of static variables in methods.
September 24th, 2004 - Release v0.55
- FPU-control functions now set the floating point unit to single(float) precision to speed up divisions and sqrts.
- Pixel shaders can override the new function bMightKillPixels() to signal the need for pixel-killing support. Not using this feature speeds up depth-only passes significantly!
- Fixed a memory leak: Present-targets introduced a problem related to reference-counting, which result in neither the device's nor the present target's destructor being called.
- Added support for triangle-shaders, which perform operations per triangle/3 vertices.
- Added triangle-assemblers + DrawDynamicPrimitive(). Samples 'LightFlare' and 'DisplacedSphere' show the use of triangle assemblers ...
- Added sample 'DisplacementMapping'
September 12th, 2004 - Release v0.51
- Ported application-framework to Linux (Input-module not available yet).
- Framework now compiles to a standalone library, which should reduce compile-time of samples significantly.
- Added makefiles for samples, which now compile under Linux!
September 10th, 2004 - Release v0.5
- Cleaned up texture-sampling functions and added support for different texture filters for minification and magnification.
- Added mip-mapping support for projective texturing.
- Removed pixel shader type m3dpso_depthonly: If you want to output depth only use m3dpso_colordepth and set renderstate m3drs_colorwriteenable to false.
- Combined clipspace and screenspace vectors in m3dvsoutput to vector4 vPosition.
- Backface culling is now performed earlier in the pipeline (before clipping).
- Modified adaptive subdivision: covered screen area is now calculated with respect to the rendertarget's viewport. Unit is now square pixel; viewport_width * viewport_height covers the whole screen.
- Renderstate m3drs_automipenable now defaults to false (performance-penality is rather high).
- Way to platform-independence: Cleaned up code to make it more standard compliant. So-called 'present-targets' take care of presenting render-output to the screen on different platforms.
Muli3D comes with present-targets for Windows and the Linux-platform, where it employes the X11 library for output to the screen.
Makefile for the Linux-environment was added: Muli3D compiles without errors (at least on my computer ;) ). No samples yet - application framework has to be made platform-independet ...
- Added new samples 'Bubble' and 'LightFlare': Ports of two DirectX-samples by ATi to Muli3D.
August 30th, 2004 - Release v0.4
- Made IBase constructor and destructor protected.
- Functions which returned only s_ok where changed to return-type void.
- Finally: working mip-mapping, added a new renderstate to control automatic mip-level computation.
- Vertex shader output register types are determined once and stored in the render-info structure. Speed boost!
- VS function OutputRegisters() renamed to GetOutputRegisters().
- Optimized interpolation of shader input registers (used when in subdivision-mode).
- Shader's Execute()-functions don't receive a pointer to the device anymore. Shaders may use an internal
SampleTexture() function for texture sampling now.
August 15th, 2004 - Release v0.35
- Moved changes.txt to root-dir of the Muli3D-package as it is used as a log for all Muli3D-projects.
- Added extensive documentation of header-files and interfaces that are visible to the user.
- Muli3D reference is available at http://muli3d.sourceforge.net/.
- Added BaseVertexIndex to DrawIndexedPrimitive().
- Added scissor testing and the pixel shader option to kill pixels.
- Code clean-up: Renamed some renderstates and function-parameters for consistency.

- Changed fpuTruncate() to _RC_CHOP (was _RC_DOWN before).
- Fixed CreateRenderCamera() in the application framework: it would always create a depth buffer, even if not requested.

- Removed unnecessary typedefs.
- Renamed struct m3dmiplevel to miplevel and made it private to 2d textures.

- Vertex shaders have to override function iUsedRegisters, which returns a bitfield containing information about the used registers. o_iUsedRegisters is not used anymore.
- Vertex- and pixel shaders now receive shader registers of type shaderregs (formerly vector4).
- Inlined some more math-functions.
August 7th, 2004 - Release v0.3
- MSVC workspace including library, all samples + dependencies
- Cleaned up subdivision stage and added two new modes:
- Simple subdivision: simply subdividies each triangle into an user defined number of sub-triangles.
- Smooth subdivision: subdivides triangles and smooths the triangle using a method similar to ATI's TruForm.
- Adaptive subdivision: Uses the area a triangle is covering on screen as the metric for adaptive triangle subdivision.
- Optimized texture sampling.
- Fixed clipping to near plane (it now clips to 0 (like D3D) instead of -w)
- Code cleanup: Resource Release() functions
- Resources increase the reference count of their parent like they should.
Using device functions like SetVertexShader(), SetTexture() etc. now don't
increase the reference count of the set object anymore.
Make sure that all used resources are still valid before calling DP()!
- Sample-update: 'Parallax-mapped Triangle' now demonstrates the use of smooth subdivision.
'Displacement-mapped sphere' and 'Displacement-mapped triangle' employ adaptive subdivision for displacement-mapping.
July 24th, 2004 - Release v0.25
- Shader registers don't have to be used in sequential order anymore.
- Perspective correct interpolation wasn't working correctly since release v0.20.
- Pixelshaders may output new pixel depth values. Overload function GetShaderOutput to enable desired behaviour.
- Subdivision stage subdivides triangles recursively and provides a base for displacement mapping.
- Two new samples, which show the use of the new subdivision stage for displacement mapping, have been added:
'Displacement-mapped sphere' and 'Displacement-mapped triangle'.

- RasterizeLine() was buggy when Z-buffer discarded pixels based on their depth value
