This is fine for normal tables. For tables with equations in them, the overflow still occurs because of an upstream issue with MathJax.

I was wrong. This has nothing to do with MathJax, and is because of the display: table layout wouldn't respect the container width. However, changing it to display: block would mess up the tables' borders etc., so unless there's a way of wrapping tables in a <div> container and setting it to display: block, there's no way that I know of to get this issue fixed for now.
