Relational quality – Examples include a marriage bond, an instance of love, and an obligation between one person and another. It is not clear that an instance of love gives rise to some quality r such that, at some time t, r is a quality of two independent continuants. That is to say, not all love is requited. Similarly, obligations between one person and another surely required two persons, but what is the corresponding quality r? It isn’t ‘is obligated to someone’ since it is not the case that both parties have an obligation.
