Your use case

Why would you like to do it?

  1. This is important to me because many rooms are connected to my account, so density is important.
  2. Not all mobile devices contain screens whose resolutions are great, do density is important for easy observation for users of those devices.

How would you like to achieve it?

Google provides an optimal implementation at https://contacts.google.com and https://mail.google.com after manually enabling it there:

Microsoft has implemented it at https://outlook.com/mail too, although how Microsoft has done it may be too dense.

Have you considered any alternatives?

The ability to decide whether avatars should be displayed for all rooms, users, and spaces, because the less imagery that is being displayed, the more that my OLED display can retain charge for my device. However, this isn't much of an alternative per se.
