Overview

Provenance: “to come from”: Chain of custodianship, ownership, influence, derivation, generation etc

PROV-O: The PROV ontology (arggghhh!): “...provides a set of classes, properties, and restrictions that can be used to represent and interchange provenance information generated in different systems and under different contexts. It can also be specialized to create new classes and properties to model provenance information for different applications and domains...”

PROV-XML in GeoNetwork - XML implementation of PROV as a GeoNetwork schema plugin

The use case is to capture provenance information about workflows: who did what, when did they do it, what did they use and what did they produce

Entities: OGC WPS parameters + datasets accessed via link to the metadata record that describes them
Actors: Link to ISO contact fragments
Activities: Could be linked to project metadata record, but more simply just a description and time extent
Relationships: what was used (used), who did what etc

Aim: metadata + reconstruct the workflow
