Walkthrough

The recent update focuses on refining the validation logic for IPv4 addresses. Specifically, it corrects the condition that determines if a given number exceeds the maximum allowable value for an IPv4 segment. Additionally, a new test case has been introduced to ensure the updated logic accurately identifies an invalid IPv4 address, enhancing the reliability of the address validation process.

Changes

File Change Summary
ips.go Updated the IsIPv4 function to correctly validate IPv4 ranges.
ips_test.go Added a test for an invalid IPv4 address "255.255.255.256".

In the code where bits and bytes play,
A tiny change makes a big sway.
"Fix a check, add a test," they say,
To keep the wrong addresses at bay.
Hop, hop, hurray! 🎉

    • Open a follow-up GitHub issue for this discussion.
  • Files and specific lines of code (under the "Files changed" tab): Tag @coderabbitai in a new review comment at the desired location with your query. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate unit tests for this file.
    • @coderabbitai modularize this function.
  • PR comments: Tag @coderabbitai in a new PR comment to ask questions about the PR branch. For the best results, please provide a very specific query, as very limited context is provided in this mode. Examples:
    • @coderabbitai generate interesting stats about this repository and render them as a table.
    • @coderabbitai show all the console.log statements in this repository.
    • @coderabbitai read src/utils.ts and generate unit tests.
    • @coderabbitai read the files in the src/scheduler package and generate a class diagram using mermaid and a README in the markdown format.

Note: Be mindful of the bot's finite context window. It's strongly recommended to break down tasks such as reading entire modules into smaller chunks. For a focused discussion, use review comments to chat about specific files and their changes, instead of using the PR comments.

Additional comments: 2
ips.go (1)
  • 24-24: The change from n >= 0xFF to n > 0xFF correctly fixes the boundary checking logic for IPv4 addresses, allowing 255 as a valid octet value. This is a crucial fix for accurately validating IPv4 addresses.
ips_test.go (1)
  • 34-34: The addition of the test case to check for the invalid IPv4 address "255.255.255.256" is crucial for validating the fix in the IsIPv4 function. It ensures that the boundary checking logic correctly identifies values just beyond the valid range as invalid.
