I have chosen “e” for “expand” as more obvious stuff like “o” for “open” and “m” for “media” are already used (for “open/expand toot” and “mention author”)
Also give focus to the “play” button of the video modal. This is suboptimal, but it is way better than the controls not having the focus at all.
