These are the dictionaries for the Jasspa MicroEmacs taken from the website: http://www.jasspa.com/spelling.html
The files are just provided in case of trouble with the old website which is http only. To install your dictionary download the right language files unpack them and place them in the User folder (~/.jasspa on Linux). Then use "Tool -> User Setup -> Start-Up Language" to select the right language.

Here the text from that website:

The spelling dictionaries are downloaded separately, select the sets of dictionaries that are required locally. Where multiple dictionaries are available, that is a base and extended dictionary, then base contains the most popular words, the extended includes more obscure words over and above the base. The base and extended dictionary are packaged together, but the extended dictionary may be removed when downloaded to conserve disk space.

The archives contain both the dictonaries and the language specific macros required to install the dictionary into the system. All of the dictionaries are derrived from ispell dictionaries. The copyrights for each of the dictionaries are contained in the macro files. The archieve should be unpacked into the macros directory (or ideally the spelling directory, where it exists).

The files contained within the archive use a new naming convention as of the January 2002 release, as follows:-

  • lsr.emf Spelling rules.
  • lsdm.emf Base dictionary.
  • lsdx.emf Extended dictionary.

As of 2002 then the naming convention of personal dictionaries is changed, following the naming convention lsdp.emf. On moving from a pre-2002 release then any existing personal dictionaries should be renamed to the new naming convention.

JASSPA's MicroEmacs supports an automatic spell mode, this performs background spell checking and highlights erroneous words. This mode may be enabled by:-

  • Help -> User Setup -> Startup -> Auto Spell

Multiple dictionaries may be supported on the same platform. The active dictionary may be changed from the dialog of spell buffer.

Files supplied in the UNIX tar.gz format may be downloaded to Microsoft Windows/DOS environments, use Winzip or native UNIX tools to unpack the files. The spelling dictionaries may be used on all supported platforms.

The following files are available

  • ls_enus.tar.gz ls_enus.zip | American spell rules, base and extended dictionaries. (2002)
  • ls_engb.tar.gz ls_engb.zip | British spell rules, base and extended dictionaries. (2002)
  • ls_fifi.tar.gz ls_fifi.zip | Finnish spell rules and dictionary. (2002)
  • ls_frfr.tar.gz ls_frfr.zip | French spell rules and dictionary. (2002)
  • ls_dede.tar.gz ls_dede.zip | German spell rules, base and extended dictionaries. (2002)
  • ls_itit.tar.gz ls_itit.zip | Italian spell rules and dictionary. (2002)
  • ls_plpl.tar.gz ls_plpl.zip | Polish spell rules and dictionary. (2002)
  • ls_ptpt.tar.gz ls_ptpt.zip | Portuguese spell rules and dictionary. (2002)
  • ls_ruye.tar.gz ls_ruye.zip | Russian YE spell rules and dictionary. (2005)
  • ls_ruyo.tar.gz ls_ruyo.zip | Russian YO spell rules and dictionary. (2005)
  • ls_eses.tar.gz ls_eses.zip | Spanish spell rules and dictionary. (2002)

Download Problems ?? There appear to be some download (CR/CRLF) problems from Windows platforms using Netscape (4.7 ??) with WinZip. If the archive appears to be corrupt then check the downloaded file byte size with that stated on the site (byte size NOT block size as reported by some Operating Systems). All downloads should be performed in binary mode. If you encounter problems then try some of the following:-

  • Disabling Smart CR/LF in WinZIP.
  • Download using another browser i.e. Microsoft IE5 or Opera.
  • Download from UNIX
