  1. Switch back to non-gradient branch rendering 

    Due to errors rendering gradients on SVG branches on some browsers/OSs which would cause the branches to not appear, we're falling back to the previous solution which doesn't use gradients. The code remains, but is commented out, in the hope an easy solution may be found.
