An old Windows laptop or desktop like this:
Or
-
A USB modem ( prefer Conexant chipset) with voice features like this:
Or
-
A splitter connects to your working telephone line, of course.
But it's not like this:
You cannot use DSL port for this. The USB modem needs to connect to a regular phone line.
The phone line from your VOIP box is OK, like the one here:
Or a router/modem with phone line like this:
- Connect your usb modem to your laptop or desktop
The Windows should automatically recognize the modem and install its driver, and it should created a COM port for this modem. If the driver was not installed, please install the driver with the accompanied CD or google the net for it.
- Connect the telephone line from the splitter to the modem.
If you are using USB modem with 2 ports, connect the line to the port marked "Line", not the one marked "Phone"
- Set your Windows power plan to "High Performance" like below:
As a precaution, you should also disallow Windows from turning off USB hub's power in Device Manager like this:
But usually "High Performance" power plan already took care of this.
- Now run the program "Spam Call Filter", if you run it for the first time, it will ask you for the COM port that the modem uses.
A computer usually has a couple or more COM ports. Don't worry about it, just choose one and the program will tell you if that's a valid modem port.
After that, go back to the "Phone Calls" tab, if you see things like this, you are doing fine.
You can also check out some details in the "Log" tab:
If everything seems fine, you can click on "Start Monitor" to start to let the program to monitor your calls.
