1)If you aren't sure what type of project you're interested in, or don't know many developers, email the rcos mailing list ( rcos-at-rensselaer@googlegroups.com ) to make yourself known!

1.5) Please visit the google groups here and browse through the messages - You will see past proposals.

2)Is there any open source software that you use and you would like to be better? Chances are emailing the developers of that project will lead you somewhere also.

  1. Please look at Open Hatch if you want to build skills and want to get involved in the open source community - and to look for projects/contributions (based on your own strengths)

  2. Suggested Projects

and see any projects that interest you and contact the persons (some projects may be dated) .

  1. email the mentors ( Mentors ) - You may not get an immediate response because of vacation and their project commitments.

  2. Learn something new (that you wanted to learn ) and where you may want to contribute however small it is - Creating tests, examples, making documentations will be a good start.

  3. Observatory needs some assistance and help. See whether you are interested in contributing to that.

  4. A lot of help is needed on drupal projects. Group address and in particular look at Needs for Drupal

  5. There is a local chapter of http://central.wordcamp.org/about/ if you are interested in wordpress
