Interested in the Data Science Group but have NO/Little Technical Experience?

No worries! We actually have a HUGE need for Non-Technical Roles. Here is a guide (for those with non-technical backgrounds and/or interest) to help you get started with the group and find a place for yourself here. All skills and levels are welcome and if you put in the effort you will get to contribute to some amazing projects!

Initial Steps

Take some time to familiarize yourself with our group and work that we do:

  • Check out our website. Here you can find out more about who we are, what projects we are working on, press, etc.

  • See code and documentation of active projects on github on Github. GitHub is repository/internet hosting service that is mostly used for housing code and projects that require code. Each repository (repo) tends to house a single project (which is true for our group).

  • Determine how much time you can dedicate to working for our group. Some needs require someone who can dedicate time each week fairly consistently, while some needs can be done as short term project. Be realistic and we can find the right fit for you.

Our General Needs

  • Marketing/Branding
  • Content
  • Product Management
  • Social Media Management

Marketing/Branding

Content Writing/Editing

  • There is a wide need for folks who can write and edit content throughout all our material. We need someone to add catchy projects descriptions to our website, write informative blog posts about completed projects or big news.

Project Management

  • This is an important need in many projects and there are opportunities to help project groups with organization around tasks/goals/needs/etc. Hopefully soon, projects that are in need of a Project Manager will visibly express that on their github repos. For the time-being, if this is something that interests you feel free to find a project that interests you and contact the lead(s) and offer to help! I would recommend offering to start with small tasks, like providing feedback on general organization or setting up a kanban board (eg. trello).

Social Media

  • This are probably requires someone who can commit time long-term. You can come to events, take photos, write tweets and generally help us share news to the world through social media.
