I have no idea why this is defaulting to default. Probably a heat-of-the-moment copy and paste error.

Please test before merging as I have no way to test locally.

I tested it and it didn't work as expected. So have to put lower on priorities for now. Sorry.

@remibetin The issue we want to fix is that the date is not shown in the individual news pages, e.g., https://www.w3.org/WAI/news/2023-10-05/wcag22rec/ even though it is in the frontmatter https://raw.githubusercontent.com/w3c/wai-news/master/_posts/2023-10-05-wcag22rec.md and shown on https://www.w3.org/WAI/news/

still low priority, though
