How do I enable Network Manager for Managing Wireless Internet Connections

  1. Open Network Management from the System Tray in the lower right corner (you may need to click the up arrow to display the Network Management icon) and check Enable networking.
  2. In the KDE Start menu go to Applications > System > Control Center.
  3. If needed, enter root password: geoportal.
  4. Under Network Devices, open Network Settings.
  5. In the Network Settings window, under the Global Options tab, enable User controlled with NetworkManager.
  6. Click OK to save the changes and close the window.
  7. Reopen Network Management to manage your network connections.
If the LiveDVD wasn't able to automatically configure your wireless network adapter, you will need to use a wired connection to run the LiveDVD on a virtual machine.

How do I setup the LiveDVD for an internet proxy? (Debian Version)

  1. If using the LiveDVD in a virtual machine (VM) first.
    1. Within the virtual machine software, right-click the VM and choose settings.
    2. Go to the Network (or Network Adapter) settings and change the network connection from NAT to Bridged.
      1. This will make your organization's network view the VM as a new and completely independent computer, so you may need to check with your IT department before doing this.
  2. Boot up the LiveDVD directly or in a VM.
  3. Click the Restore Window box in the top right of the browser to un-maximize it.
  4. Click the terminal icon on the desktop to open the terminal.
  5. Type gnome-network-properties into the terminal and press enter.
  6. Edit the proxy configuration according to your network's requirements.
  7. Close the Network Proxy Preferences window.
  8. Back in the terminal restart the network by entering the following:
    1. sudo /etc/init.d/networking stop
    2. enter geoportal for the password.
    3. sudo /etc/init.d/networking start
  9. Back in the Web browser, reload the webpage.
